Furniture and appliances
Women and children who leave the shelter are constantly in need of furnishings. Due to lack of space, we are not always able to accept large donations. Please give us a call and let us know what you have. If we can match a women’s need to your donation, we can help make arrangements for her to get them. Please note: We do not have a truck or personnel to transport large items. We rely on the support of volunteers for this. If you are able to store your items for a short while, please let us know.

We are not able to accept the following items:

  • Clothing that is torn, stained, has missing buttons or broken zippers
  • Used or open cosmetics and toiletries
  • Used undergarments or hosiery
  • Stuffed animals (as cuddly as they are, they are also a potential source of germs)

Your generous donations are greatly appreciated, but please ensure your items are screened and cleaned before you donate them to our women and children. Consider asking yourself “Would I feel comfortable wearing our using this item?”

To make a donation, or to inquire about guidelines, please contact 905-372-7056.

We appreciate your donation and support of women and children in Northumberland County who are fleeing abuse .

Your Hbc Points can make a huge difference by shopping!

 WSHBCflyer.jpg

What if I told you that you could help us make a difference - by shopping? Well, you can when you join the Hbc Rewards Community Program. It’s an easy and exciting way to shop for your favourite Hbc items and make a contribution to Northumberland Services for Women.

If you are an Hbc Rewards member, you can now link your Hbc Rewards account to NSW and automatically start contributing your Hbc Reward points. Every time you shop at the Hbc family of stores which includes Bay, Zellers, and Home Outfitters, you can truly make a difference by supporting women and children in Northumberland County who are fleeing abuse.

Once you designate your points, you can contribute anywhere from 10-100% of the points you earn to NSW. This means that every time you shop at an Hbc family store, you can help us get closer to redeeming for the much needed items that are outside of our annual budget.

All you have to do is:

1.    Visit http://www.hbc.com/community

2.    Under New Members or Current Members Donate to a Community Group

3.    Search for our group by entering our Public ID# 9735371

4.    Select the percentage of points you would like to donate (minimum of 10%)

It’s that simple. Tell your family, friends, coworkers and spread the word. If you join us today, Hbc will give NSW 2,000 additional much needed bonus points.

Thanks to everyone who has signed up so far and chosen to support women and children starting new lives, free from abuse.

We now have a brokerage account for Stock Donations.

Please consider making a gift of stock to help women and children starting new lives free from abuse. The process is simple, and your gift will make a difference.

1. Review and complete the Letter of Authorization from Donor to Broker.

2. Provide your completed Letter of Authorization to your broker or financial advisor, who will be responsible for initiating your transfer.

3. Notify Northumberland Services for Women by faxing a copy of the completed Letter of Authorization to Heather at fax: 905-373-4800 to ensure we have the information to issue an official tax receipt.

 Leaving a Legacy

Canadians give for many different reasons: for some it is a way to ensure their memory lives on, for many it’s a way to ensure that their favourite charity is able to continue its important work, while for others it represents a way to facilitate the tax implications that come with the transfer of one’s estate to surviving relatives.

Your will is more than a legal document. It can be one of the most powerful tools you have to help end violence against women. Through a bequest in your will to the Northumberland Services for Women, you can leave a legacy of change that will help to end violence against women for future generations. Fulfill your philanthropic dreams and support Northumberland Services for Women while creating a future without violence: bequest a gift or make monthly donations today.   Please click on our Donate button to see how you can easily donate!
